Laser Skin Resurfacing - The Treatment To Restore Skin

Landscaping - Think of The Skin As Land or Terrain

Laser Resurfacing is exactly the same idea as Landscaping.

What Bulldozers and Hoes do for Earth,
Lasers do for Skin.

I am indebted to Einstein and his concept of Thought-Experiments for this idea.
Einstein used simple "stories" to explain to himself complex physical concepts.

I believe this is derived from the simple truth that,
"Everything Is...Related To Everything Else."
"Understanding One Concept, Enables One To Understand Any Concept."

Too simple?
Things do indeed feel complex, until you understand them.
Then they are indeed simple.

Land vs. Skin

The nice thing about the skin as contrasted to land, is that skin rejuvenates itself, whereas land (or dirt and earth) do not.

When the contours and shapes and indentations of skin are trimmed and smoothed and leveled, the surrounding skin is filled or plumped up or replenished by the never ceasing action of cell division constantly taking place in the body.

Laser Heat Stimulates Growth

Very simply Heat stimulates Growth.
Heat causes the increase of movement in matter, the increased motility of molecules inside of cellular structures.

Heat catalyzes chemical reactions.

When the skin cells are stimulated thermally they increase the rate at which they divide
(don't quote me on that though. i'm not quite sure that's the best way to describe what happens precisely).

The effect is that collagen production is stimulated and collagen is what gives skin its plumpness.

Trimming Trees and Pruning Roses

The skin needs maintenance and care just like plants in a garden,
and trimming the skin,
or sculpting the skin,
is a stimulating and actuating experience,
not a destructive one (unless too much skin is "treated". than it's the same as trimming a tree so it doesn't have twigs and leaves and is naked to the elements).

Lasers in the Future

Laser maintenance of the skin should become part of standard medical care.

"Physical appearance is as important to a person's holistic well-being as their Physiological Health."

Regular laser maintenance of the skin can keep one looking beautiful their whole life.

One still looks older, but, still hot and attractive to younger humans.

I look forward to the day when lasers are integrated into common medical treatment.

"Humanity will be at its happiest when all human beings are treated as humans,
that is as separated parts of the same whole,
and all parts special,
all parts invaluable,
all parts contributing to the health and happiness of the whole."

The Horror of Ugly Skin (1st Exposure) - Matthew McConaughey

First, let me say, that it has been painful for me finding unflattering pictures of poor Matthew to put here.
I like him.
I am very grateful for his participation in making the movie Failure to Launch.
Considering that I moved out of my Mom's place just last year, I can wholly relate to the film.
I am not terribly proud of having moved out so late. I wish I had moved out when I was 17. I just wasn't ready.
Coming of Age Rituals. Our society is completely lacking.

Unfortunately, the poor fellow has not taken very good care of his skin.
Thus, he is a prime example to show young people the consequences of sun exposure.
I don't know if Matthew has a moisturizing routine, but, considering how much sun damage his poor skin shows, I don't think so. : (

A Time To Kill (1996)

First, here are two pictures from the 1996 film : A Time To Kill.
I was floored with how good looking this new actor was, and, quite jealous. >_>

Matthew McConaughey - 2006

Now, (brace yourself) , here are 2 pictures of Matthew from 2006.
He LOVES the sun (sadly, it shows).

Matthew on Wrinkles

It is VITALLY important that I state that Matthew McConaughey has himself commented on his wrinkles and he accepts them as a part of getting older.
That's cool.

He has a beautiful girlfriend and a lovely child.
He smiles a lot and seems to be loving life.
Wrinkles appear to be something he doesn't care about.

Conclusion - My Personal Reaction

Personally, I think he looked a LOT better without wrinkles.

Just because we get older, does NOT mean, we HAVE to get wrinkles.
Phoney Baloney.

The human body.
The human coil, is really just a covering for the vital spark that makes a human being a magical creature.
That said,
I personally can't get past seeing the coil as being important, no, ESSENTIAL, to human existence.
And considering, well, EVERYTHING, on TV, in Magazines, on Billboards, etc.
It looks like everyone else is pretty stuck on this whole nice looking body thing too.
And hey. We should be. The body is part of who we are.

The solution to all the misery, and unhappiness, the vast majority of us suffer in relationship with our bodies is :
we need to be like the Romans and Spartans : make having a beautiful body, a fundamental part of human existence.

It's not just an Individual Thing.
As a Human Group, we must make it a Totally Normal and Expected Thing that EVERYONE has a beautiful body.

Impossible?
So was flying, but we did it.

Step 1 - Make this common knowledge :
THE SUN WILL GIVE YOU WRINKLES! WEAR SUNSCREEN!

sigh...
I just really wish someone had told me this when I could've prevented wrinkles from marring my face. : ' (

Well. I'll do what human beings who suffer ought to do : warn their fellows of the perils one has endured.
Still, not having wrinkles and a leathery sheen would make talking to pretty girls less painful. : (

The Horror of Ugly Skin (Pictures to Alert Young People)

Today, as I was waiting for the bus, I noticed a very cute girl.
I kept stealing glances at her, to get a better idea of what she looked like.
Finally, our glances crossed and I got a good look at her face.
She was around 15 or 16 years old, very pretty, with perfect skin.
In my mind, I instantaneously juxtaposed her doll-like skin with my erythema splashed, leathery sheen cheeked skin.
I averted my glance and decided to leave her alone.
It's a funny, tragic thing. Being attracted to beautiful people, but not being beautiful oneself. One of the constant pains of existence.

The experience cemented my resolve however.
I have decided to start a new series in my Beauty Blog.
Pictures of people with (forgive my harsh bluntness) "ugly" skin.

I keep repeating myself, but, I wish that someone had admonished me when I was young to :
1. Wear Sunscreen, and,
2. Moisturize Daily

It's too late now. I have ugly wrinkles and that leathery sheen to my cheekbone skin, like that of some reptile.

I'll get laser when I can afford it someday, but, for now, I am determined to spare young people from the horror of ugly skin.

To my fellow adults who are also living the daily dismay of looking in the mirror at a painfully unsatisfying reflection : help the younger generation.
Tell them how much you regret not having been told to take care of your skin when you were younger.
You'll help a lot. Trust me.

The Sun Is Coming Out. Yay! Please, Protect Yourself From The Rays. ^_^

British Columbia is green and beautiful because of all the wonderful rain. It's summer now though, so, bring on the sun! (with a little rain too, so the forests don't burn down : )

With the sun though comes copious amounts of UV radiation.

Let's make this perfectly clear :

THE SUN (UV Rays) 'WILL' AGE YOUR SKIN!

So please protect yourself!

Two seasons of Tree Planting without wearing sunscreen or shades gave me wrinkles I never had before, along with a “leathery” look to my cheek-bone skin.

Every time I look in the mirror, I rue the fact I didn't wear sunscreen, and that it isn't writ large everywhere you go,

“FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WEAR SUNSCREEN!”

sigh...wrinkles just don't look too hot...maybe i'll get laser someday...

Until then though, I can spare others from the aesthetic horror, with the advice I didn't get (why can't school teach useful stuff?)

#1 : UVB : Ultra Violet “Burning” Radiation. I think of it as being short-wave radiation that doesn't penetrate deeply into the skin, but causes sunburns and skin cancer.

UVA : Ultra Violet “Aging” Radiation. I think of it as “Long Wave” Radiation which penetrates deeply into the skin and actually damages Collagen (gives skin its plumpness) and Elastin (gives skin its flexibility) causing those gross wrinkles.

#2 : SPF tells you how much UVB protection you're getting, NOT how much UVA. The only way for you to know if you're getting good UVA protection is to read the ingredients on the back of the sunscreen bottle.

#3 : Wikipedia Article on Sunscreen has got the solid info. -_-

#4 : Look for Parsol 1789 (Avobenzone), Mexoryl SX and/or Mexorly XL, and Titanium Dioxide (the white stuff on Lifeguard's noses).

#5 : I use L'Oreal's Ombrelle Sunscreen SPF 45. It's expensive and pretty thick, so I just use it for my face. [sun damage. my poor face : ' ( ]

#6 : I use Wal-Mart's Equate Sunscreen for the rest of my body. It's cheap and spreads great. It's only got Parsol 1789 blocking out UVA, but I think that's enough for my bod (the face is just more important y'know?)

#7 : Wal-Mart has 100% Pure Aloe Vera for cheap and it works beautifully for sunburns and good ol' skin softening. : )

There you go guys and girls! My advice and admonition to you all. Oh yeagh, to conclude :

#8 : If you want to picture sun damage, think of a piece of fruit, like an apple or grape. Put it out in the sun and what happens? The poor thing prunes and shrivels up. Why? All the water that gave the fruit its plumpness was sucked out. Fruits are mostly water. Guess what we are?...

Wear Sunscreen please.

You'll make me happy! : )

Fruit of the Earth : 100% Aloe Vera Gel (Wal-Mart)

Brand : Fruit of the Earth
Product : 100% Pure Aloe Vera Gel
Cost : Around $6
Where to Buy : Wal-Mart
Why It Rocks : 100% pure, No Alcohol (Alcohol dries out the skin : badly), No Chemical Crap

If I do not have this stuff in my bathroom I find myself extremely distraught.
It is simply put fantastic stuff.

We all know Aloe Vera.
The amazing plant which cools and soothes our skin.
When we get sunburned our first instinct is to go and find some Aloe Vera. It's something our Mom's teach us when we're young. The relief one gets from applying the gel is peerless.

Wal-Mart sells the gel for around $6 for a big 567 gram bottle.
The gel is 100% pure, no alcohol, no disgusting added chemicals (why do companies have to contaminate our bodies with chemicals?...sigh...), just straight-up, natural Aloe Vera goodness (BOO-YAH!!!).
This is by far the best deal on Aloe Vera I have found anywhere.

Other Aloe Vera Products

Most Aloe Vera products I have found either :

A. Have a ton of added chemicals and "Cetyl Alcohol" or "Ethyl Alcohol"
(why the heck do companies do that? don't they know Alcohol dries the skin? Hello!!! Are they just trying to purposefully dry out our skin to make us buy more product? well...cigarette companies pump cigarettes full of noxious, toxic, inhumane chemicals to addict people to the point of slavery, I suppose other companies are easily capable of the same insidious behavior. they rate a big : YUCK! from me.)

or,

B. Cost a bunch.
Jason is a great brand.
I love their Vitamin E oils and creams (although I buy Jamieson because it's cheaper. sorry Jason. : ( and I am a faithful customer of their Shampoos and Conditioners.
They also sell 100% pure Aloe Vera gel, but it costs around $7 and the container is a lot smaller (like 1/3 of the Fruit of the Earth stuff).

I don't remember if the Jason brand is organic.
It probably is.
I also imagine that The Body Shop has 100% pure Aloe Vera too which is likely organic.
Probably also substantially more expensive.

Ok. This is important to state.
If I had the extra money to spend, I would delightedly shell out for organic.
Why?
Because I care.
The Earth is my home and the home of my fellow human beings.
I want the Earth and my fellow human beings to be healthy and happy.
That said,
if I don't take care of myself (plenty of good food, a warm apartment, 8-10 hours of sleep a night),
I don't feel too caring about anything.
Care for myself comes 1st
(but not really though. I feel I can do both simultaneously. Care for myself and Care for the Earth and Care for my fellow human beings. why not eh?)

My Experience

I first noticed the Aloe Vera gel when I was buying sunblock.
After 2 seasons of tree planting in the northern part of British Columbia, it became undeniably clear to me that the sun was severely damaging my skin.
I came back from my 2nd season of planting and wrinkles had appeared where there had never been any.
It was truly painful to see.
I feel sad just remembering it.

What really did it for me though was my first day working as a construction Labourer in May of 2006.
It was a hot spring day. At least 25 degrees Celsius.
The sun was beating down brightly.
Naturally I was wearing a t-shirt, sweating away, moving as fast as I could to make a good impression of what a hard worker I was (sigh...why does our society have to be like that. fear everywhere. fear all the time. I was frantic to make a good impression because I needed the work. no work. no money. no money. no living. lame. there has to be a better way.).
I was carrying around a lot of lumber that day.
The lumber was pressed right up against the skin of my arms, creasing and wrinkling the skin from the sheer weight of the wood.
I could feel my skin burning, but it was too hot to put on my sweatshirt, and I had to keep moving quickly to maintain a good impression.

I made it through the day, sweaty and exhausted but pretty sure I'd make a good impression.
The skin on my arms though was already taking on an angry red color, particularly the skin on the opposite side of my elbows.
I went to the gym and when I put on my muscle shirt it became clear to me my skin was burned bad.
The workout hurt when I would bend my arms and cause the skin to crease.

When I came home I showered (which stung awfully) and then applied some of the Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera.
aaaaahhhhhhhh...
it felt so good.
I applied the gel lavishly and the burn calmed down and disappeared after a few days.

Sadly though, my skin on the opposite side of my elbows had had enough.
It was now permanently wrinkled (as in looks like old man skin).
Too many sunburns over the course of my life and that last bad one finally pushed my skin over the edge and it was now forever damaged.

The experience taught me 2 things :

1. FOTE 100% Aloe Vera gel is friggin' awesome.

2. The sun is directly responsible for aging my skin (curse you sun! ... although I still love you for being absolutely essential for the existence of life on our planet : )

My advice to everyone :
WEAR SUNSCREEN! (UVA/UVB Broad Spectrum. SPF 45)

and,

buy a bottle or 2 or 3 of FOTE 100% Aloe Vera gel at Wal-Mart.

David. ; )
